Volunteering Opportunities
Could You Be A Volunteer?
Could you act as a mentor to a Year 11 pupil? A Teenage Parent? An Offender? A Lone Parent? Could you encourage a young person to take a different direction in life? Could you offer Primary Schools support with one-to-one reading sessions?
Salford Foundation runs several Mentoring and Support Programmes which run across Greater Manchester.
There are currently over 250 volunteers with Salford Foundation, but we always need more people. Volunteers range in age from 19 to 70+. Many work for local organisations which support our programmes, but many volunteers assist in their own time. We are not looking for people who are experts, just people who can use their experience of life to help someone else.
We offer full training and support throughout. There is an opportunity to attend an Accredited Training Course, as well as several awareness days and focus groups.
vinvolved
vinvolved is the new national youth volunteering programme aimed at attracting up to a million young people aged 16 - 25 to give some of their time and reap the personal benefits of the volunteering experience.
The primary objectives are to create the greatest range of volunteering opportunities, to inspire a new generation of volunteers and to encourage employers to release staff so that they can take part in volunteering.
Building on the success of its Millennium Volunteers programme Salford Foundation is managing v projects in three Greater Manchester boroughs on behalf of vinvolved. These are in Trafford, Tameside and Salford.

Youth Action Teams will drive forward the programme guided by experienced volunteer managers who will provide bespoke support packages, resources and tool kits for organisations who would like help in creating volunteering placements.
Broadening the scope of opportunities is a priority and our v teams are keen to hear from any organisation that feels it can offer a long or short term volunteering position. This could be helping with children or the elderly, with community projects, environmental improvements, sports activities or public events.
Volunteering is a great way for young people to explore their own interests, learn about life, the working environment and to add a recognised and valued credential to their CV. A big bonus is that all volunteers get a nationally recognised award to recognise their endeavours.

Young Volunteers

Fantastic opportunities for 13-16 year olds are available through YV (Young Volunteers), an exciting programme that empowers young people through volunteering, encouraging them to become involved in a huge range of activities designed to help their development and benefit their local communities.
Many activities make a worthwhile contribution to the community such as intergenerational practice with young volunteers and older people coming together in local housing schemes, environmental clean-up projects, organising and taking part in community events and shows or working with animals including birds of prey.

And there are plenty of fun activities too such as Halloween mask making, carol singing, fashion shows, street dancing, media projects or gardening. There are awards and rewards for those taking part – bronze awards for achievening 25 hours of volunteering, silver for 50 hours, gold for 75 hours plus platinum awards for 100 hours or more. There are also fun-packed, team building residential breaks in the Lake District.
YV empowers young people, encouraging them to make their own choices and take responsibility. It engenders team spirit, a sense of commitment and ownership.
