Take Five

The Take Five Initiative supports businesses and their employees to ‘Take Five’ out of their day to give back to local schools in their community through volunteering their time.

One of the focus’ of Salford Foundation’s Business Education Partnership (BEP) is to support businesses and their employees to get actively involved in the community. Through the ‘Take Five’ initiative, the Salford Foundation’s BEP aims to offer a simple but structured programme for businesses to start engaging in local schools.  What we ask from our businesses is that they sign up to a five day commitment; that is to say that the business commits to sending a representative to at least five of our events throughout the year.

Salford Foundation’s BEP runs many events with schools across Greater Manchester to bridge the gap between school and the world of work. Some of the main activities that we run include: World of Work, Mock Interviews, the Raising Aspirations mentoring programme and more.

World of Work

We invite a variety of businesses to talk to students about different jobs, industries, qualifications and run a group activity highlighting specific job roles. Students will ‘carousel’ around each representative to find out about job opportunities and career options.

Mock Interviews

Mock interviews give students the opportunity to experience a one-to-one interview with a business volunteer. The students will also have an opportunity to receive feedback after the interview.

Raising Aspirations Mentoring Programme

The main aim of the mentoring programme is to enable YR8 and YR9 students to discover the skills and attitudes needed to successfully transition from education into the world of work. Through interactive activities and discussions with groups of 8 students, volunteer business mentors will share their stories and help equip students with the essential skills needed for work.

Other Activities

  • Personal Finance Days.
  • Career Fairs.
  • Primary Transition Days.
  • College Aspiration Workshops.
  • Interview Ready Workshops.
  • Meet the Business Workshops.

Business Volunteer from Barclays, Bury

"This was my first time interviewing a candidate: it was a really good experience and I learned a lot.

I’m hoping to apply for a management position so it’s good practice for me and I’m so pleased that the (interviewee) found it helpful.

The event was well planned and successfully executed. The questions you provided for me to use really helped."
