Salford Foundation are recruiting a Youth Services co-ordinator to join the Engage programme supporting young people aged 8-18 from Trafford. This is for 12 months maternity cover.
Engage is commissioned through Trafford Council to deliver one-to-one mentoring and group work to young people open to Early Help. All young people have been identified as needing additional support to enable them to reduce their risk-taking behaviours and/or increase their confidence, skills and resilience, enabling them to lead healthy, happy and aspirational lives. You will provide them with a range of learning and development opportunities, positive activities and personal support, mentoring and advocacy which will support them to achieve agreed outcomes. You will assist the mentees to improve their attendance at school or engage in alternative educational experiences. You will enable them to increase their self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing.
The co-ordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the programme, including liaison with schools, local authority teams, families and other agencies, contributing to effective multi-agencies working.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
§ Building relationships with young people and their families
§ Facilitating referral procedures and developing a close partnership with external agencies
§ Completing research-based evaluation tools with young people on the programme
§ Ensuring interventions are tailored to meet the needs of the individual
§ Ensuring behaviour is sustained long-term
§ Engaging in multi-agency work to meet the needs of young people
§ Ensuring the support for the client is coherent, co-ordinated and consistent
§ Tracking and monitoring of progress and outcomes including liaison with parents/ families
§ Acting as an advocate or supporter in assisting service users to better access mainstream services
§ The maintenance of relationships with key organisations in the city which work with young people on the programme
§ Promoting the service to external networks within Trafford
§ Implementing and complying with all the Foundation’s policies, including Safeguarding Policy and procedures and ground rules for implementing appropriate behaviour with children, young people and adults
Person Specification
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by young people
- Knowledge of support services for young people and their families
- Understanding of Child Protection, health and safety, and anti-discriminatory practices
- An understanding of the challenges faced by young people through transitions.
Experience
- Minimum 1-year experience supporting vulnerable young people
- Experience completing detailed case notes to a high standard
- Working towards personal targets
- Experience working in education or community organisations
- Experience administering evaluation tools with young people
Skills
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent standard of communication
- Ability to use MS Teams and Outlook competently
- A commitment to your own personal and professional development
Special Conditions
- Enhanced-level DBS check will be completed by the employer
- Successful candidates will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends, for which time will be given back in lieu
