BNY and Salford Foundation have co-designed Money Matters, a programme that equips young people and young adults aged 16 to 30 with the money management skills for work and life.
The project is is offered to two different groups of people. Each offers sessions aimed at different age groups to improve young people’s and young adult’s skills and engage them in topical and relevant financial conversations. Below is a breakdown of what’s on offer through Money Matters.
Inclusive Finances (aged 16-24)
A 2019 survey by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) showed that “90% of children and young people who learnt about managing money in schools said it was useful” and that those who recall learning about money management are more likely to be active savers (CYP FinCap 2019).
Money Matters has been developed to empower young people in education to feel confident and start talking openly about money through fun and interactive activities. The programme is split into three different sessions which include: Basic Banking, Budgeting 101 and Independent Living. The programme can be run in different ways such as all three sessions over one full day or one session as a stand alone topic, both ways offering a range of different skill development such as team work, confidence building and problem solving.

Money Matters for Community Groups (aged 18-30)
From a number of years of delivering Money Matters in colleges, we felt the sessions were not just for students in education, but for vulnerable groups in communities, so this year, we have expanded Money Matters to include Care Leavers, ESOL students and Asylum seekers.
Money Matters has been developed to empower young adults to feel confident and start talking openly about money through fun and interactive activities. The programme is split into three different sessions which include: Basic Banking, Budgeting 101 and Independent Living. We are also currently developing a ‘Money Literacy’ workshop to help ESOL students not just learn the basics but understand some of the key terms of UK finance. These sessions will be delivered in-person throughout the year and are arranged directly with existing groups or organisations.
If you are a care leaver, a PA or an LA representative in Greater Manchester and want to find out more about the upcoming sessions or sessions we could provide for you, please get in touch with Jason King, details are at the bottom of the page.
